A salt bridge is a combination of two noncovalent interactions:hydrogen bondingand electrostatic interactions. They are normally found to contribute stability to folded conformation of proteins, if氨基酸involved are less than 4 Å apart.

However, salt bridges are also found in supramolecular chemistry.
